In this week’s episode Sophie looks at “verlan”, a type of French slang which is very common in many parts of France. It involves reversing the order of syllables within words and can be confusing for learners. In the cultural section Sophie introduces us to the area around Rue Cler in Paris. It’s time to listen to the final section of Katie’s diary which she has kept throughout her time spent in Nice. In this week’s lesson we’ll be hearing about her plans for the future and we’ll find out if these plans include Jérôme!

Expressions include en cours, les heures de pointe, and griller un feu rouge. She also talks about her recent walking tour around the 5ème arrondissement.

She introduces the phrase avoir la trouille, meaning “to be scared”, and also lets slip her love of all things Harry Potter – en français, bien sûr! Join Sophie in Paris as she explains our new video blog series On Location French.

Sophie is a Scottish student, currently studying in Paris, and she’s taking full advantage of the fact that she’s surrounded by native speakers of French. Each week she’ll be telling us about one expression or grammar point that she has learned in the course of the week.
